Top Ten Tuesday (9): Top Three Books That Will Make You Cry

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly blog meme hosted by The Broke and Bookish that allows readers to share their lists and opinions on a number of subjects from their top ten book covers to their top ten villains.

This week's topic for January 28th is:

Top Ten, Er Three, Books That Will Make You Cry

I don't know if it's because I'm emotionally stunted or if it's because I subconsciously avoid the Grave of the Fireflies of the book world, but I haven't actually read that many books that managed to make me cry. There are some books that make me feel really emotional, but I can only recall three books that made me teary-eyed. And if it can make even me cry, then it's guaranteed to be good.

1. The Book Thief by Markus Zusak
This book pulled a Moulin Rouge on me. You know what's going to happen right from the beginning because the narrator tells you what happens, but it doesn't lessen the impact of the final scenes in anyway. It still got to me, and the worst part was that I was reading the ending at the library in between classes. So yeah, I cried a bit in public.

2. A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness
A kid faces a monster as he slowly comes to terms with his mother's battle with cancer. :((((((  I don't think I have enough frowning chins to illustrate just how much this book broke my heart.

3. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows by J.K. Rowling
Admittedly, I didn't cry the first time I read this book, but I did tear up the second time I read it. However, I didn't cry for any of the deaths (and there were a lot). Instead, I got really emotional for the Room of Requirements scene where everyone gathers.

Well, here's my very short list of books that made me cry and might make you cry, too. Did these books make you cry, too, or are you heartless? (Just kidding).

  1. I'm with you on being emotionally stunted; making me cry is like an epic battle that will never be won :P But TFiOS and The Darkest Minds are two that come to mind when I think of books that have been able to give me ALL THE FEELS.

Great list. Of course HP had to be on there - oh the emotions!
