How can I say no to a book that includes two of my favorite things: magical realism and angel wings?
Magical realism is one of my favorite genres, from Invisible Cities to American Gods to The Book Thief. There's just a certain whimsical nuance to them that I find more enjoyable to read than traditional fantasy or contemporary books. And compared to vampires, zombies, and werewolves, there just isn't nearly enough books centered on angels (or in the case of this book, people who are angel-like?). There are a lot of elements of this book that I love, so I hope it doesn't disappoint when it comes out.
Also, on a shallow note, I am in love with that book cover. I'm not going to deny that I judge a book by it cover, and the simplicity of the cover is what caught my eye in the first place.

Oooh. I've seen buzz on Ava Lavender around and it has sounded intriguing. The cover looks dreamy too. Have you tried reading some Latin American fiction? Magical realism plays a huge role in Latin American lit - try reading or watching Like Water for Chocolate if you haven't experienced it yet. Such a delight!
ReplyDeleteI haven't read any Latin American lit yet, but I've been meaning to. Like Water for Chocolate is definitely on my list as well as some other books by Gabriel Garcia Marquez. Have you read any books from him yet? There are so many books of his to choose from, I don't know where to start.
